Athletics
Wichita Christian School provides a competitive athletic program and is led by Kyle Davenport, Athletic Director. WCS offers basketball, baseball, cross-country, football, golf, track, tennis, and volleyball. We are the WCS Stars and strive to provide athletic excellence in all our sports. We invite you to come and experience all that WCS athletic programs have to offer!
The game of baseball requires skill, mental focus, and teamwork. At WCS, we stress fundamentals and working as a team, which are life-long skills our athletes take with them into their churches and the workplace.
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12
WCS offers both boys and girls basketball at the Junior High and Varsity levels. More than any other game, the game of basketball requires skills that must be practiced repeatedly, and only with time and effort can these skills become automatic. At WCS, we strive to connect this game with the spiritual lives of our athletes by teaching them that it takes the same time and practice in their spiritual lives to skillfully navigate through life.
I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in His grace until His task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns. Philippians 1:6
Perhaps more than any other sports, cross country is both a physical and mental challenge that not only teaches fitness, but also discipline and focus. At WCS, we strive to help athletes apply these principles not only to the sport, but also to their spiritual lives.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:24-25
WCS offers Junior High and Varsity football. Our six-man football moves at a much faster-pace than traditional 11-man. As a result, it is crucial that each athlete commits himself to be in the best shape possible so he can excel on the field and endure through challenges that may confront him at any time during the game. At WCS we strive to teach the connection between athletic principles and spirituality in which one must always be prepared to take on the challenges life presents and endure through the trials of life.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12
WCS has been offering golf since 2011. Although most kids are new to this game, we are excited to be able to offer a sport that kids can play their entire lives. Also, the sport teaches mental focus like none other, and teaches participants to endure even during hard times.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:2-3
Our tennis program provides students knowledge in the sport of tennis while providing skills to build their strengths on and off the court. Instruction on focus, commitment, and dedication are promoted to strengthen emotional and physical skills for athletic competition.
WCS offers both boys and girls track at the Junior High and Varsity Levels. Track is a sport that requires both speed and endurance, and in order to achieve success on the track an athlete must be willing to push him/herself beyond what they think they are capable of. At WCS we strive to connect these principles to our athletes spiritual lives by teaching them that with the power of Christ all things are possible.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
WCS offers Junior High and Varsity volleyball for our young ladies. In order to be successful in the game of volleyball, teamwork and communication are critical. At WCS we understand the same holds true to life, and therefore we strive to teach all our athletes to build strong Christian relationships with one another. This includes both building each other up and relying on each other to get through the trials of life.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
The WCS cheerleading squad is expected to be more than spirit leaders; they are representatives of the school and of God. The squad promotes and upholds school spirit and develops a sense of good sportsmanship.
