Abigail Skipworth, WCS Senior wins 1st place in Rotary Club Americanism essay contest
Each year the Rotary Club of Wichita Falls sponsors an essay contest for area high school seniors. This year’s first place winner was Abigail Skipworth of Wichita Christian School. The topic was “Old Glory Tells a Story.” Abigail read her essay at the Rotary Club meeting on May 23, and was awarded with an iPad with 64meg, 4g and wireless capability. Congratulations on this award, Abby!!!
NJHS elects 2013-3014 officers
The National Junior Honor Society met Thursday, May 16 to elect new officers for the 2013-2014 school year. The new officers are:

Kaylee Adams qualifies for Duke TIP state recognition
Kaylee Adams qualified for State Recognition in the 2013 7th grade Duke University Talent Identification Program. Having taken the ACT, Kaylee demonstrated a high level of achievement and has been invited along with her family to attend the State Recognition Ceremony. Congratulation Kaylee!

“The best part of my day is going to Mr. Wallace’s office either getting in trouble or having our morning chat. I enjoy every memory I have on the Jr. High and Varsity WCS volleyball team, mainly my senior year with Coach Lacy. I love my teachers and small class. Students Win Awards at TAPPS State Academic Meet
Several WCS students competed recently at the TAPPS State Academic Meet. For the 1A Division, WCS proudly took home third place in yearbook. Leksi Vasquez received first place in Poetry Interpretation and Robert Lee received 5th place in Social Studies. Also competing were Logan Pipes in Debate and Morgan Sharp in Number Sense.
In the Regional Academic Meet, Logan Pipes placed 5th in Debate.
In the District Academic Meet, the following students placed:

WCS students inducted into National Honor Society; advisor receives Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award
The Don Wallace chapter of Wichita Christian School’s National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) hosted its annual membership induction and candlelight ceremony on March 28, 2013. Carol Wagner was the featured speaker. Faculty, students, family, and friends attended the ceremony and the reception which followed.
Sally Perkins, Advisor for the Wichita Christian Honors Societies was also awarded the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction for excellence in teaching and for the encouragement of and dedication to the academic success of students at WCS.
“Mrs. Perkins is a Christian with strong leadership abilities. She encourages us to uphold the values of God, our country, state, and our community,” said Savannah Hull, student at WCS.
Membership in NHS and NJHS is by faculty selection and is based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Both societies participate in annual fundraisers and service projects which benefit the school or community. This year contributions benefitted SONshine House.

Preschool to host St. Jude’s Trike-a-Thon March 22
Wichita Christian School Preschool will host a Trike-a-Thon on Friday, March 22 to raise money for St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
Prior to the event, the children learn bicycle and tricycle safety from Bikewell Bear and Safety Sue. Children will bring their bicycles and helmets for a riding event to raise money for the charity. Wichita Christian has raised more than $14,000 for St. Jude’s since participating in this event for many years.

WCS students win first place in TEAMS writing competition
In division one of the TEAMS event on Sat., Mar. 2, students from Wichita Christian did an outstanding job in the writing competition taking first place. The team consisted of Caleb Brumley, Christian Thomas, Alex Nelson, Madison Sosolik, Jordan Thornton, Abby Heyen, Sarah Conley and Morgan Sharp. The team also improved upon their score compared to last year scoring seven points higher. Congratulations to all these students!

2013 YMCA Youth Character Counts Award winners at Wichita Christian! Each winner had their own “story” and poignant reminders that character, does indeed COUNT! It was exciting to recognize students who model the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty. Congratulations to Parker Landes and Evan Findley – our WCS Stars who received this award!
Also, parent Scott Brooks, owner of Kwik Kopy, received the Outstanding Youth Sports Mentor Award. Congratulations, Scott!
