WCS students inducted in NHS and NJHS in March
The Don Wallace chapter of Wichita Christian School’s National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) held its annual membership induction and candlelight ceremony on March 19, 2012, in the school auditorium. Dr. Lance Bourgeois, College and Young Adult minister at Grace Church, was the featured speaker. Faculty, student body, family, and friends attended the ceremony and the reception which followed.
Membership in NHS and NJHS is by faculty selection and is based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The total membership of these groups is currently 33.
The following new members were inducted into NHS: Zack Byrd, Larissa Dillard, Alex Nelson, Josiah Perry, Allee Pipes, Jordan Thornton, and Madison Sosolik. The following new members were inducted into NJHS: Tanner Cannedy, Erin Faurie, Yuna Lee, Isha Perry, and Bryson Norton.
Both societies participate in annual fundrasiers and service projects which benefit the school or community. The proceeds from last fall’s Powder Puff football game were donated to Faith Mission for their Thanksgiving meal.
Election of new officers for the 2012-2013 year will take place on Monday, May 5.
Lady Stars track team heads to State tournament

Wichita Christian School Lady Stars track team placed first in the district meet in the 4 x 100 relay. They are now headed for the State Tournament May 4th and 5th in Waco. Go Lady Stars!
High School students place 2nd at MSU Art Competition
Mingxuan Li and Emily Brown each won 2nd place at the 20th Annual MSU Art Competition on Saturday, February 10th. Li won for drawing and Brown for mixed medium. Congratulations!

Lady Stars undefeated District champs
Congratulations to our Lady Stars Basketball team who are District Champs with a 12-0 record. They will begin their playoff season on Tuesday, February 14 at 6:00 against Brownwood Victory Life Academy in our gym at 1615 Midwestern Parkway. Go Lady Stars!!!
4th and 5th grade students qualify for Duke Talent Program
Eleven outstanding Wichita Christian students have qualified for the Duke Talent Identification Program. Duke TIP’s 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated.
To be eligible a student must score at the 95th percentile or above on a standardized test, such as the Stanford Achievement Test. WCS is proud to announce the following students qualified:
4th Grade:
Conner Bagwell, Namya Collier, Kylie Nichols, Kaden Vasquez, Vivienne Whisker, Lindsey Yarbrough
5th Grade:
Lauren Faurie, Evan Findley, Chase Havins, Kellen Osborn, Brooklyn Purdy
Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as fourth and fifth graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Participants also gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students. Eligibility for enrollment is an honor and indicates outstanding intellectual ability.

Preschoolers raise over $700 for Faith Refuge
All of the Preschool classes have been collecting pennies for the past month. They enjoyed dumping all their change into pumpkins! Over $700 was collected by the end of October and this will go toward projects at Faith Refuge. Way to go, Preschoolers!
Lady Stars Vball team TAPPS 1-A Area Champs!
The Lady Stars traveled to San Antonio Gateway on Tuesday and came away with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-12 victory. Chelsea Studdard led the Stars with 4 aces while Matty McGee spearheaded the defensive effort. Ashtin Battista had 4 blocks and tied Rachel Dillon for the team lead with 5 kills. This advances them to the Regional playoffs at Austin Concordia University against Boerne Geneva for a shot at the State title on Saturday, October 29 at 10 a.m. GO LADY STARS!!!
WCS 7th graders qualify for Duke University’s TIP
Wichita Christian School is pleased to announce that six 7th graders have qualified for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program. Duke TIP’s 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Participants also gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students. Eligibility for enrollment is an honor and indicates outstanding intellectual ability. Duke TIP provides participants with an exciting, stimulating and challenging opportunity to augment their capabilities. Congratulations Tanner Cannedy, John Ebner, Erin Faurie, Bryson Norton, Isha Perry and Emilie Von Zehman!
WCS Students Receive Optimist Club Awards
Three WCS Juniors recently received awards from the Red River Optimist Club. Hunter Wolfe placed 2nd in the Optimist International Oratorical Contest in March. Aaron Perry and Summer Issa were named Young Texan/Tex-Anne for the month of April. These awards are given monthly to local 11th grade students who excel in areas of academia, extracurricular activities and community involvement. These students may now qualify for scholarships from the Young Texan/Tex-Anne Corporation. Congratulations to these outstanding students!
