4th and 5th students qualify for Duke Talent Program

Eleven outstanding Wichita Christian students have qualified for the Duke Talent Identification Program.  Duke TIP’s 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation.  Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated.

To be eligible a student must score at the 95th percentile or above on a standardized test, such as the Stanford Achievement Test.  WCS is proud to announce the following students qualified:

4th grade:

Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as fourth and fifth graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities.  Participants also gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.  Eligibility for enrollment is an honor and indicates outstanding intellectual ability.

The 25th Annual Fall Banquet was a great success, reports Development Director Kristal Amador.  More than 280 guests committed to Wichita Christian School were in attendance.  We could not fulfill the mission of Wichita Christian school -inspiring hearts, souls and minds for successful living-without you!

Preschoolers raise over $700 for Faith Refuge

All of the Preschool classes have been collecting pennies for the past month.  They enjoyed dumping all their change into pumpkins!  Over $700  was collected by the end of October and this will go toward projects at Faith Refuge.  Way to go, Preschoolers!

Lady Stars Vball team TAPPS 1-A Area Champs!

The Lady Stars traveled to San Antonio Gateway on Tuesday and came away with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-12 victory.  Chelsea Studdard led the Stars with 4 aces while Matty McGee spearheaded the defensive effort.  Ashtin Battista had 4 blocks and tied Rachel Dillon for the team lead with 5 kills.  This advances them to the Regional playoffs at Austin Concordia University against Boerne Geneva for a shot at the State title on Saturday, October 29 at 10 a.m.  GO LADY STARS!!!

Wichita Christian School is pleased to announce that six 7th graders have qualified for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program.   Duke TIP’s 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation.  Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated.  The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school.  Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities.  Participants also gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.  Eligibility for enrollment is an honor and indicates outstanding intellectual ability.  Duke TIP provides participants with an exciting, stimulating and challenging opportunity to augment their capabilities.  Congratulations  Tanner Cannedy, John Ebner, Erin Faurie, Bryson Norton, Isha Perry and Emilie Von Zehman!

WCS Students Receive Optimist Club Awards

Three WCS Juniors recently received awards from the Red River Optimist Club.  Hunter Wolfe placed 2nd in the Optimist International Oratorical Contest in March.  Aaron Perry and Summer Issa were named Young Texan/Tex-Anne for the month of April.  These awards are given monthly to local 11th grade students who excel in areas of academia, extracurricular activities and community involvement.  These students may now qualify for scholarships from the Young Texan/Tex-Anne Corporation.  Congratulations to these outstanding students!

State-of-the-art gymnasium at K-12 campus

Wichita Christian School held the  formal ground breaking ceremony for a new state-of-the-art gymnasium at the K-12 campus, 1615 Midwestern Parkway, on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010.  The ceremony included students, families, faculty, dignitaries, committee members, foundation representatives and board members assembled to celebrate this momentous and happy occasion.  Actual construction  began on December 20th.  The school hopes to have construction completed and the gym opened by September.

K-12 Faculty Participates in CSCOPE Training

WCS K-12 faculty participated in a phenomenal new curriculum cooperative inservice at the Region 9 Educational Service Center on January 4, 2010.  CSCOPE is a comprehensive, customized, user-friendly curriculum management system built on the most current research-based practices in the field.  This cooperative has enabled us to align with the state curriculum while weaving Christian and Biblical principles throughout.  We truly have the best of both worlds at WCS:  state curriculum without high stakes testing and Biblical principles in every classroom, hallway, and athletic venue.   For more information about CSCOPE, follow this link to their website:   http://www.cscope.us/index.html

Wichita Christian School dedicates new facility

Wichita Christian School celebrated its opening in the former McGaha Elementary School , 1615 Midwestern Pkwy. , with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the Gold Coat Ambassadors of the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The school began in 1963 to provide a quality education in a Christian environment that inspires hearts, minds, and souls for successful living.

The new location is home to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Preschool classes are still held at the former elementary campus on Neta Lane .

With a staff of dedicated teachers, many with master’s degrees, Wichita Christian School provides a learning environment that challenges the students to reach their full potential. The teachers are committed to integrating Christian principles within a challenging curriculum that will meet the academic and spiritual needs of each student.

This K-12 campus will offer dual-credit college courses, fine arts, competitive athletics, and Bible curriculum with a focus on community service.
