WCS Student Places 3rd in Regional Spelling Bee
WCS’s own Abby Heyen, a 7th grader, placed 3rd at the 27th Annual Regional Spelling Bee held Saturday, March 27 at Midwestern State University. The Regional Spelling Bee is hosted by Times Record News and the American Association of University Women. Twenty-four 4th-8th graders participated in this rigorous competition, being eliminated by words such as topography, prosaic and sayonara. Abby placed third by spelling such words as alliteration, salmonella, elixir, poltergeist, vernacular, taj, circuitous and precocious. Wow! She won a $20 Amazon.com gift certificate, a $50 savings bond from the AAUW, and a one-year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Online. Abby has been a student at WCS since her preschool years and is proud example of our academic success. Way to go, Abby!!!
