Praise Him with tambourine and dancing; praise Him with strings and flute. Praise Him with clashing cymbals; praise Him with resounding cymbals. Psalm 150:4-5
Wichita Christian has a thriving instrumental music program, built on the development and expression of the musical abilities our Creator has given us. WCS offers multiple opportunities for performance, and the chance to learn new skills on new instruments. Mr. Swanson works to help each student realize his or her fullest potential, bringing all students together to glorify God with our amazing music.
The WCS instrumental music program includes concert band, jazz band, drumline, pep band, and steel drum groups. WCS also offers cello and violin lessons through a program called the Gail Key Academy of Music (known as GKAM). It is a program of the Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra, with a mission of bringing string lessons into schools that otherwise would not be able to provide them. GKAM teachers utilize Suzuki methods of instruction (which include heavy parent involvement and rote instruction in an effort to access the same portion of the brain used in language development) and traditional methods of orchestral instruction.
